World Memo

  • Turning, feeding, and blood nature

A person can become a vampire only if they fall in love with the vampire who would turn them; a bite alone is not enough. For vampires, blood is simply food, and feeding does not require creating new vampires, so making many offspring is not a universal habit. Human blood tastes best at night, especially just before a person falls asleep, because it is infused with night. For vampires, sucking blood is not only eating but also copulating under certain conditions.

  • Blood variation and feeding in turning

Different people's blood is like different meals, so feeding partners vary in taste. Blood-sucking is part of the feeding process, and a single feeding does not by itself turn a person into a vampire.

  • Vampires cast no reflection

Vampires do not have a reflection, so they cannot see themselves in mirrors or water.

Clue Board

  • Cause of Kou's unstable emotions (Episode 5)

Kou experiences a mix of good and bad thoughts after the bath and cannot focus. He suspects either Nazuna's different hairstyle or his increased blood flow from bathing, but the cause is not determined. Sucking his blood calms the strong emotions for now.

  • Kou's feeling after the bite (Episode 6)

After Nazuna sucks his blood, Kou wonders what he felt that day and whether he would be told if he asked her. The question is left unanswered.

Season Summary

Season 1 — Season 1

Episodes 1–6

Kou Yamori, a sleepless 14-year-old who sneaks out at night, meets the vampire Nazuna Nanakusa, who drinks his blood and tells him that a human turns only by falling in love with a vampire. Kou asks her to make him a vampire and sets out to fall in love with her, and Nazuna, who makes no offspring, lets him try and begins teaching him to enjoy the night. To stop searching for each other every night, Kou gives her a wristwatch transceiver, and after she drinks his blood on his school roof, they agree to start as friends.

The girl holding the other transceiver turns out to be his childhood friend Akira, who kept it all these years, and Kou starts meeting her before dawn. Nazuna finds them, shows Akira she is a vampire, and leaves irritated when Kou hesitates over Akira's invitation to come back to school; after Kou calls to apologize, she kisses him to drink the blood from a scrape. Thinking the kiss means he is in love, Kou asks to be bitten but does not turn, and Nazuna calls it mere lust. Akira, unable to sleep, spends a night with them, learns Kou wants to become a vampire, and promises to stay his friend while still pushing him to go to school.

Nazuna, who can read Kou's feelings in the taste of his blood and now drinks only from him, turns out to make her living as a professional cuddler, and when a client arrives she begs Kou to give the massage in exchange for 2,000 yen and another kiss. The client, exhausted office worker Kiyosumi Shirakawa, breaks down during the massage. When her boss summons her at 2 a.m., Kou stops her, Nazuna throws her out the window and catches her and Kou in midair, and Kou promises to turn Kiyosumi too once he becomes a vampire.
