Recent Timeline

  • Seven-day letter commission at Magnolia house (Episode 10)

Violet Evergarden was hired for seven days to write letters for Ann's ill mother, to be delivered to Ann over the next fifty years. Ann's resentment at being left alone and her mother's worsening illness marked the stay. Violet's departure after the letters were finished closed the commission, and Ann came to see her as a kind person rather than an unwelcome visitor.

  • Aidan's final letters delivered (Episode 11)

Violet secretly took a soldier's ghostwriting request that Hodgins had meant to decline, and Vandal flew her over the mountains to Ctrigall. She reached Aidan during an enemy ambush and recorded his dictated letters to his parents and his childhood friend Maria as he died. She delivered them to his parents and Maria, who thanked her, while she apologized for failing to protect him.

  • Escaped Gardarik soldiers arrive and special train attack (Episode 12)

General Merkulov, leader of the anti-peace faction, received 1,041 Gardarik soldiers who had escaped the camp in Ctrigall; a diversion had apparently made the southern forces believe they had been wiped out, and he planned to cut north-south transport and retake Intense in the confusion. Violet spotted explosion traces along the railway and stayed aboard the envoy's special train against Dietfried's order. Just after the train left, an explosion hit Distary station without casualties. When Merkulov's men attacked, she fought without killing until she was overpowered, and Dietfried rescued her.

  • Bridge bombs removed and peace treaty signed (Episode 13)

General Merkulov revealed the bridge had been rigged as a backup plan and leapt from the train. Violet and Benedict removed the bombs, with Violet losing her last arm and nearly falling into the river before Benedict caught her. With the envoy safe, Leidenschaftlich and Gardarik signed a peace treaty to end the war, and Gilbert's mother told Violet that what happened to Gilbert was not her fault.

  • Violet declines final order and writes to Gilbert (Episode 13)

As Violet left, Dietfried gave her one last order, which she said she no longer needed, showing she had become fully independent through Gilbert's teachings. Inspired, she wrote her first letter to Major Gilbert for the Air Show, saying her work had helped her begin to understand feelings, that she believed he was alive and would keep hoping to meet again, and that she now understood the words "I love you" a little.
