Episode Summary

3rd Night: A Lot Came Out

Kou, who has been skipping school, reconnects with Akira through the old transceiver he once left for her, and agrees to meet her again at the same pre-dawn hour, when she takes her early walk to school. Nazuna, who feeds on Kou's blood, notices him leaving early, finds the two together, drinks his blood in front of Akira to show she is a vampire, and takes both to a bar.

Akira asks Kou why he skips school, and he admits he no longer enjoys going but cannot explain it. Nazuna leaves irritated without paying; Kou calls her on the transceiver to apologize, and when he admits he hesitated over Akira's invitation because he didn't know how to tell a human friend he wants to become a vampire, Nazuna kisses him to drink the blood from his scrape.

Kou then gives her a wristwatch transceiver to keep in touch, and they test it at a 150-meter range. When he calls, she replies from within range, and he is glad they can now reach each other.

  Nazuna takes Kou to the roof of his school and says the night changes how one sees things, making the school seem less bad. Agreeing, he lets her bite his neck and feed. • Vampire feeding and turning rules

  A person can become a vampire only if they fall in love with the vampire who would turn them. For vampires, blood is simply food, and feeding does not require creating new vampires; making many offspring is not a universal habit. Human blood tastes best at night, especially just before a person falls asleep, because it is infused with night. Feeding is not only eating for vampires: under certain conditions, sucking blood is also a form of mating.

Kou Yamori, a sleepless 14-year-old who sneaks out at night, meets the vampire Nazuna Nanakusa, who drinks his blood and tells him that a human turns only by falling in love with a vampire. Kou asks her to make him a vampire and sets out to fall in love with her, and Nazuna, who makes no offspring, lets him try and begins teaching him to enjoy the night. To stop searching for each other every night, Kou gives her a wristwatch transceiver, and after she drinks his blood on his school roof, they agree to start as friends.
