Episode Summary

School's Out - First Term

Over two days the third-year class takes end-of-term exams. Asano stays first overall and Class A dominates the top ranks, but Nakamura (English), Isogai (social studies) and Okuda (science) take first place, so Class E wins the bet. Karma, who skipped studying, drops to 13th, and Korosensei deliberately lets him taste defeat.

With four students also tied for first in Home Economics, Korosensei must grant the right to destroy seven tentacles. The class will use that right on the resort island in Okinawa it receives as its reward, and Korosensei declares the first semester over.

  • Exam and results

Students sit the exams, with Nakamura and Nagisa solving a question easily. Korosensei announces results where Asano stays first and Class A holds six top spots, while Karma drops from 4th to 13th after his arrogance.

  • Tentacle prize and Home Economics loophole

Class E takes three top spots, earning the right to destroy three tentacles. Terasaka and three others then reveal a tie for first in Home Economics, arguing nobody specified which five subjects counted, so Korosensei must grant seven tentacles; the class saves that right for the island assassination.

  • Closing ceremony and reward

At the closing ceremony Class E confronts Asano and the Big Five over their prize. Class A mocks the Big Five's loss, Asano vows revenge, and Class E's reward is a holiday resort on a tiny Okinawa island, which becomes the site of the planned assassination.

Recent Timeline

  • Takaoka dismissed after knife challenge (Episode 13)

Takaoka, who had taken over PE with violent training, proposed a duel in which a student would face him with a real knife while he stayed unarmed. Nagisa defeated him and pinned him with the blade at his throat. Chairman Asano then dismissed Takaoka for ruling by violence and fear, reminding him that the Ministry of Defense has no say over the school's teachers.

  • Pool dam trap ambush (Episode 14)

Terasaka fired the signal gun Shiro had given him, setting off an explosion that destroyed the pool dam and swept the class toward a cliff until Korosensei saved them all. In Karma's counter-plan Terasaka took Itona's blow, and the smoke-tainted shirt and the class's splashing weakened Itona until Shiro admitted defeat. Terasaka became the class's ally.

  • Library bet with Class A Big Five (Episode 15)

At the main campus library, the Big Five picked on Isogai's study group of Nagisa, Kayano, Nakamura, Kanzaki and Okuda and made a hasty bet that the winner would order the losers around. When one of them said he would stake his life on it, Nagisa, Kanzaki and Nakamura pointed their pencils at the taunters' throats and eyes. Gakushu Asano turned the bet into a contract for both classes with 50 other clauses, including one requiring Class E to answer any question truthfully if Class A won.

  • Final exam results: Class E wins the bet (Episode 16)

Asano kept first place overall and Class A held the top six spots, but Class E took first in English, social studies and science, winning the bet three subjects to two, and Asano was rebuked by his father. Karma dropped from fourth to thirteenth due to laziness and arrogance, and Korosensei's rebuke drove him away in despair, which prompted Karasuma to question Korosensei's approach.

  • Home Economics tentacle claim and semester end (Episode 16)

Terasaka, Hazama, Yoshida and Muramatsu, tied for first in Home Economics, claimed one tentacle each, so Korosensei had to grant the right to destroy seven tentacles in all. At the closing ceremony Class E confronted Asano and the Big Five to collect the prize, a holiday resort on a tiny Okinawa island, where the class will use the tentacle right. The Chairman privately resolved to restore the old order over the summer, and Korosensei declared the first semester over.

Deduction Board

Facts

  • Three subject wins

Nakamura took English with 100, Isogai social studies with 97 and Okuda science with 98, so Class E won three of the five subjects and the bet with Class A.

  • Seven-tentacle right granted

After four students tied for first in Home Economics claimed one tentacle each, Korosensei was talked into granting the right to destroy seven tentacles; the class will use it on the island.

  • Karma's drop

Karma, fourth in the midterms, slacked off and counted on luck, and fell to 13th overall.

Evidence

  • Relieved to lose only three

Korosensei privately thought losing three tentacles would be manageable but six would have been truly dangerous, showing he counts tentacle loss as a real threat.

  • Home Economics tie

Terasaka, Hazama, Yoshida and Muramatsu tied for first in Home Economics and, arguing nobody had said which five subjects counted, each claimed a tentacle.

  • Class A holds the top

Gakushu Asano kept first place overall and Class A took all of the top six spots; Class E's best overall were Kataoka and Takebayashi, tied for seventh.

Inferences

  • Tentacle loss weakens Korosensei

Losing tentacles reduces Korosensei's strength, so the tentacle-destruction rights won in the exams give the class a real advantage.

  • Why he pushed Karma

Korosensei believes the talented Karma must taste a crushing loss and learn from it instead of relying on easy wins, so he rebuked him on purpose; Karasuma questioned the approach.

  • The island as the stage

The holiday resort on a tiny Okinawa island that Class E chose as its prize becomes the stage for the big assassination using the seven-tentacle right.

Suspicions

  • Another unnamed weakness

Nagisa's narration says another weakness of Korosensei came up that day, more important than his inability to swim, but what it is has not been revealed yet.

  • Asano's vow of revenge

Gakushu Asano, scolded by his father after losing the bet, swore revenge on Class E. How he will strike back is still unknown.

  • The Chairman's plan to restore order

The Chairman intends to take measures after the summer holidays to restore the old order. What he will do is not yet known.

Battle Record

Terasaka, Hazama, Yoshida and Muramatsu, who tied for first in Home Economics, claimed one tentacle each, and Karma's remark at Chiba's prompt led the class to talk Korosensei into granting the right to destroy seven tentacles.

A tentacle destroyed by anti-sensei weapons grows back within seconds, though regrowing it uses up a good deal of stamina. Each lost tentacle cuts his speed by 10%.

KorosenseiMonthly skin shedding

Once a month he can shed his skin and use it as a shield. Shedding drains more energy than it looks and slows him afterward; against Itona he escaped by shedding and later wrapped Itona in the shed skin.

KorosenseiKeen sense of smell

Has a keen nose: he can sniff out sweets from far away and caught the unfamiliar men hidden in the storage shed by their body odor.

KorosenseiMucus

Secretes a sticky mucus that caught a sniper's bullet on oil-blotting paper and doubles as bath foam that lifts away dirt.

Can strike a target five times with a knife in a single second.

Nagisa ShiotaNatural assassin's talent

Small and easy to overlook, he can walk up to a target holding a real knife as calmly as if walking to school. In the real-knife challenge he slipped behind Takaoka, froze him with a feinted neck slash and pinned him down, and Karasuma recognized him as a natural-born assassin.

RitsuAdaptive fixed artillery fire

Fires repeated volleys of anti-sensei guns at Korosensei and calculates the probability of killing him, which rises over time.
